A leading charity group has set up
a new scheme to help people who are deaf or have suffered hearing
loss to find employment.
Action on Hearing Loss Scotland will now
hold a monthly club to help people aged between 16 and 25 find work
in all different kinds of areas. Participants in the scheme will
get assistance with things such as creating a CV, searching for a
job, filling out application forms and preparing for
interviews.
Barbra Wylie, an employment advisor with
the group, says the aim is to make sure that deaf and
hearing-impaired young people get the same opportunities as other
people their age. "The other benefit of the job club is that it
allows for ideas to be exchanged and for people to look at what
careers they may be suited to or identify training that they might
need to reach their goals," she added.
In response, Patricia Thomson, Skills
Development Scotland's area manager for Edinburgh, is delighted
with the initiative and has urged anyone who thinks they may be
interested to go along. The first meeting takes place at Skills
Development Scotland, Shandwick Place, on Wednesday May 2nd between
1.30pm and 3.30pm.
If you think you may have a hearing loss why not take our
online hearing check questionnaire or make an
appointment to have a free hearing test at your nearest
