Can bad weather (rain, wind...) damage my hearing health?

The natural shape of the outer ear (the Pinna), and the natural bend in the ear canal help to prevent rain or water from potentially damaging the eardrum. Everyday wind noise should not pose any risk for our hearing health. However excessive wind noise maybe a greater risk, particularly if there is a sudden and significant change in pressure such as in skydiving or putting your head out of the car window while travelling at speed.

If you are concerned about your hearing I recommend that you book an appointment to have your hearing tested with one of our hearing centres. At the top of the page you will see the words ‘Branch Locator’ where you can enter your postcode and this will return a list of your nearest Amplifon branches.

Kind regards, Amplifon
